Thanks to Ed Kashi for an amazingly successful photographing expedition, here’s hoping it makes a big difference!

With 12,000 photos ‘in the bag’ Ed Kashi’s stint of working in south east Madagascar to document sustainability has finally drawn to a close. The trip has seen him knee deep in mud, perilously photographing massive zebu (Malagasy cattle) ‘mangosy-ing’ the field in preparation for the rice planting, scaling mountains in the searing heat to capture the vast sisal plantations in the correct light and helping fishermen pulling in fish in the crystal waters of the beautiful Lakanony. One highlight was undoubtedly a stomach-wrenching trip in a light-aircraft to try and capture the landscapes of the southeast from above.
There have been emotional highs and lows, exhaustion and elation, but has it been worth it? Absolutely. A select few of Azafady’s staff have been honoured with a sneak preview of the shots so far and they are truly incredible and inspiring. We have no doubt that the photos taken will prove in time to be of enormous benefit to the Great Red Island; an island that despite its incredible beauty, coupled with overwhelming levels of poverty and environmental degradation, rarely receives the attention of the world’s media. These photos, we hope, will help bring Madagascar into the spotlight.
For those of you interested in seeing the treasures that Ed is returning with, there will be the opportunity to attend an exhibition touring a number of countries in April. The photographs will also be published in a book, with details of both the exhibitions and book to be posted on Azafady’s website, blog and Twitter.
But now, from my borrowed laptop (mine became a doorstop last week!) in the Azafady Madagascar office in sunny Fort Dauphin, all that is left to say is thank you so much Ed, for pushing yourself to the edge in the pursuit of improving life and redressing the balance for the Malagasy people.
From Mark Jacobs, Azafady’s Managing Director in the UK.

This is fantastic news - congratulations Mark and Ed! When and where exactly is the photography exhibition? Where can I find more details??
Hope it’s all going well.
